Dr. John Hughes
Dr Hughes is board certified in Emergency Medicine. He is a military veteran who served for over 15 years in the US Army. After graduating #1 in class from West Point in 1996, he served in the infantry as a platoon leader in the 82nd Airborne Division before attending medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. In 2005 he completed Emergency Medicine residency in San Antonio at Ft Sam Houston and spent the next 5 years working as a physician in infantry and special forces units. During this time he cumulatively spent over 2 years deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.
In 2010, Dr Hughes returned to San Antonio where he worked as faculty in the military Emergency Medicine Residency and service chief of the Ft Sam Houston Emergency Department at a Level 1 Trauma Center. After 5 years of being stationed at Ft Sam Houston and one more deployment to Afghanistan, he was honorably discharged from the military. He worked in the Methodist healthcare system before joining Spectrum Healthcare and working at the Inwood Emergency Room.
Dr Hughes resides in San Antonio with his wife and 4 children and is a season ticket-holder and avid supporter of the San Antonio Spurs.
